About Shatterbelt
A shatterbeltis a geopolitical term for a region that is internally fragmented and caught between rival great powers — the South Caucasus, the Middle East, Eastern Europe, Central Asia. These are the places where the world's order breaks first and rebuilds last.
Shatterbelt covers them.
What We Do
We publish deep structural analysis of geopolitics, defense, energy, and markets — the kind of analysis that connects an interceptor production rate in Arkansas to an Armenian election to a gold price crash to a Houthi strategic calculation. The interconnection is the product.
We don't do hot takes. We don't do balanced-for-balance's-sake. We have opinions, we state them, and we show our work. Every factual claim is sourced. Every prediction is tracked. When we get something wrong, we say so publicly.
Methodology
Our analytical methodology combines open-source intelligence from 500+ sources across 15 languages, real-time monitoring of regional media (including Telegram channels, Armenian-language outlets, and Farsi sources), and AI-augmented research pipelines that can synthesize hundreds of data points in parallel.
All analytical judgments, conclusions, and editorial decisions are human-directed. AI tools accelerate research synthesis and help organize analysis — they do not generate the conclusions.
Track Record
We maintain a public track record page where we log our major analytical calls and revisit them quarterly. Accuracy matters more than volume. We would rather publish three right pieces than ten vague ones.
Independence
Shatterbelt is independently owned and operated from the EU. We accept no advertising, no government funding, and no editorial direction from any institution. Our sole revenue source is reader subscriptions — which means our only incentive is to be useful to you.
